Exercise & Training
Aim for around 90–120 minutes of total activity per day. This is a true working breed: plan on 1.5–2 hours of real activity daily, mixing running, fetch, and training. Mental work (puzzle games, obedience, agility) is as essential as physical exercise.
Daily Walks by Living Situation
Apartment or Home Without a Backyard
3 walks / day
~40 min each
Apartment living is possible only for very committed owners: multiple long, brisk outings daily plus significant training and enrichment. Leash walks alone will not satisfy an Aussie.
Home With a Backyard
2 walks / day
~40 min each
A fenced yard is a great outlet for fetch and frisbee, but Aussies still need off-property outings and structured work — a yard alone quickly becomes a boring racetrack.
Daycare or Park Time?
Active, well-run daycare suits most well-socialized Aussies, though some try to herd the playgroup — choose a facility experienced with herding breeds. Two to three days per week helps meet their high exercise needs.
