History & Origins

Developed in Rio Grande do Sul, southern Brazil by Gaúcho shepherds through crossbreeding European herding dogs brought by immigrants, including Collies, German Shepherds, and Serra da Estrela Mountain Dogs. Selectively bred for herding and guarding livestock in the region's unique terrain and open ranges. Recognized by CBKC and provisionally recognized by FCI.
