History & Origins
Descended from Celtic Hounds, systematically bred in the Tyrol region starting around 1860 for hunting hare, fox, and larger game in mountainous terrain. Emperor Maximilian I used these hounds as early as the 1500s. Officially recognized in 1896 by the FCI
